History
Geschichte
In the years 1907 to 1910, Johann and Christine Ebner,
the great-grandparents of Andreas Osinger, today’s owner of Ebner, built the inn and a commercial building. In 1910, the inn and a general store were opened. In 1931, a new ball room was built and 20 beds for guests added. The building was called a “tourist home” then. Unfortunately, the number of tourists who came to Heiligengeist were few and they had little or no money.
in 1927- the first Ebner motor coach mastered the trip to Heiligengeist. The connection to the rest of the world entailed a short upswing, but the war and post-war years were soon to follow bringing nearly two decades of standstill.
The season was short, and many a weekend spoilt by rain.
Horse-drawn carriages would bring summer holiday-makers to Heiligengeist. The Ebner family had built a road to Heiligengeist single-handedly and also connected the tiny mountain village to telephone and electric power.
In the 1950s,
the family began to install running water in the rooms. In the 1960s, the first rooms were equipped with their own bathrooms and toilets –a sensation in our rural area at that time.
In 1974, the Ebner hotel
was opened at the size it has today (110 beds, 240 seats in the restaurant) and fulfilling 4-star standards. Later on, a swimming pool and two clay tennis courts were built.
The good reputation of Ebner’s cuisine,
the friendly service and the various rooms available for dining and wining make Ebner a popular place for parties and celebrations.
For nearly 100 years,
the hotel has been managed by the family; currently in the 4th generation. Andreas Osinger, who is also an enthusiastic bus tour operator, specialised in group travels. Many regular guests who have spent their holidays at Ebner’s for decades appreciate the family atmosphere in the large yet cosy and comfortable house.
